                      Youthful yearnings

Caged by the clasp of the teeming city,
This soulless space permits no depth of breath.
Ancient longings surface
Like poison ivy in a forgotten forest,
They slowly stretch to smother me.

Mocking memories swirl.
Jaded dreams scoff.
Breath falters, the soul pleads...
Youthful yearnings stay, stay.
Permit dreams to slay the morbid day.

Instead, we surrender our pining spirits
And like black and white silhouettes
In a silent movie,
We encircle one another,
In a space where only screams should reign.
